Improve CRAC operation and energy efficiency with a cost-effective Floating Head Retrofit

Looking for a Cost-Effective Energy Conservation Measure for Your Data Centre?

As part of our Cooling Optimization Program implementation, SCTi is always looking at the most economical solution to maximize your data centre’s cooling.

If your CRAC units at 5 years or older we may recommend, depending on what we find during our cooling optimization audit,  implementing a Floating Head Retrofit. This technology upgrade will enable the CRAC units to modulate head pressure based on ambient temperature thus reducing compression horsepower and energy use.

Legacy CRAC’s operate on fixed head pressure with the need for higher horsepower, year-round. A Floating Head Retrofit enables CRAC’s to modulate head pressure based on ambient temperature, thus reducing compression horsepower and energy use.

When do I start seeing savings?

Savings can start as soon as the ambient temperature is below 15 degree C (59F) which is 75% of the year in Canada.

What does the retrofit include?

A systematic component upgrade includes an electronic expansion valve with micro processor based controller and VSD lead condenser fan.

Older units with R22 refrigerant are upgraded to R407C to extend their useable life

RESULTS

225+ CRAC units upgraded

Up to 45% in cooling energy reduction

16,000 Tonnes of CO2 reduced
